Hair-raising Adventures! Death-defying feats!
Sky-high Tightropes and Fearless Land Sharks!
All in a Weekend's Work
in the sleepy little (yet secretly macabre) hamlet known as...
Santa Barbara!
To paraphrase Roy Scheider in JAWS:
"We're gonna need a bigger playground."

Training for the circus is never easy...
especially with 'Big Sister' always looking over your shoulder...

...but sometimes siblings help steady the rope...

Victory!

We sailed on a pirate ship where we saw sea lions napping on a buoy and the pirates -- in a particularly unnerving moment -- allowed Charlotte to drive the boat. (Understandably, the pirate refused to allow his face to be photographed.)

We bounced chaotically on the trampoline at Jackson and Harry's house and ate so much breakfast with Sarah that our stomachs hurt. And then at the end of the trip...

The Merry-Go-Round was sedate in comparison...

(with Jackson)
although, sadly, we later heard a rumor that, in a horrifying incident that same day,
one of the carousel horses had been eaten...!
there were reported sightings of a land shark on state street
with a satisfied look in his dead, doll eyes and a bronze pole sticking out of his mouth...
Santa Barbara is not for the feint of heart
